100 planes come to Belgium for world's 1st short landing and take off (STOL) competition on a beach

The world's first short take off and landing (STOL) international competition on a beach is taking place in Belgium starting this Thursday 14 June.  We are expecting up to 100 planes from 10 countries to take part.

There will be numerous categories for entries from vintage biplanes last seen in action in the 1920’s and 30s to up-to-date aircraft (“bush planes”) that can land in wildest locations. The winner of each category will be awarded a prize at this first ever STOL and beach landing competition in Belgium.

Not only will the beach become an official, legal airport, during the four days of the competition, but the Belgian Interior Ministry have now confirmed that it will also be fully international.  This will include border guards (police/customs) will be present for non-Schengen arrivals and departures! Straight into the beach from the UK, Iceland or where ever. But just remember they only have though 600m to land. 'Knokke-Zoute International Airport' is open for arrivals starting 0900 on the 14th June!
